Claudia and Kate Nicholls have a unique mother-daughter relationship: Kate is a caregiver for her mother, Claudia, who has stage 4 breast cancer. Now, they run a podcast together called “Stage 4 Clinger,” that takes a humorous look at their situation.
In this episode of the “CURE® Talks Cancer” podcast, they share their story about Claudia’s cancer journey and how the podcast came to fruition, as well as how they turn painful moments into comedy.
“Humor for us – it's always as a coping mechanism. Humor is a way of control,” said Kate. “It's a way of controlling the situation, controlling the narrative. And instead of whispering about cancer, or acting like, you know, that everything so awful, we'd rather laugh and we'd rather bully cancer because cancer sucks. So we're like, ‘You're such a nerd, cancer, like get out of our face.’”
